The dreams of two more families come true!
EXIT Realty Corp. International is a proud sponsor of two Habitat for Humanity home builds this month in our Convention host city of Nashville, TN. EXIT Associates came together to help make the dream of homeownership possible for two families and the dedication of these homes will take place on Sunday, October 28th at 2:00 pm at 6130 Mount View Rd. Antioch, TN 37013 (LOT 35).
Our recipient families have dedicated many hours in sweat equity towards the building of their homes. They are:
Paul and Elizabeth Manyok and family
Paul and Elizabeth are the parents of three girls; Abigel (4), Margret (1), and Agot (1 month). Paul has worked for Vanderbilt Medical Center since 2007 as a patient transporter. He has many community connections, including being a graduate of Lipscomb University. Paul was one of the Lost Boys of Sudan and is a member of the Lost Boys of Sudan Foundation, Tennessee Foreign Language Institute and various churches. He has been the subject of Lost Boy documentaries and other events. Paul sought out homeownership through Habitat so that his wife and children could have a safe place to grow and rest.
Currently, Paul and Elizabeth and their children live in a 3 bedroom apartment that is very expensive. The carpet has holes and the paint is peeling. Paul does not feel safe leaving his wife and children at home alone and the girls are not allowed to play outside.
Paul and his family are looking forward to moving into their new Habitat home and getting involved in their community. Hard work, education and making a difference are three things that Paul values most. He is confident that through the experience of homeownership, he will be able to provide a better life full of opportunities for his family.
Clara Curtis and her son, Michael
Clara grew up in Paducah, KY and served in the armed forces. She is now a disabled veteran working hard to support her son, Michael, while he pursues a degree from Tennessee State University. Clara is very proud of Michael and his accomplishments and has done a wonderful job raising him.
Clara and Michael live in a two bedroom apartment in Antioch. To get to her apartment, Clara has to go up a flight of stairs which is very hard on her knees. She has lived in the projects, the barracks, apartments and rental homes, but says she has never felt like she was home. For Clara, being accepted into the Habitat Program is “a real dream come true.” She has wanted to own her own home for many years and says, “Homeownership means the world to me! It means freedom and owning my own space.”
Clara’s grandmother is her biggest inspiration and was also a homeowner. Clara says “My grandmother’s spirit was tenacious, fierce, and loving.” Now it’s Clara’s turn to enjoy her earned right to homeownership through her own hard work and tenacity.
Please join us for the happy occasion on Sunday and meet our wonderful recipient families. Everyone is welcome! For more on EXIT Realty’s work with Habitat for Humanity, please visit www.exitrealty.com/habitat
