EXIT Realty Advantage and the Spirit of EXIT Catch a Wave with Dave

By Stephanie Dickson, Sales Representative with EXIT Realty Advantage of Marriott-Slaterville, UT

This year The Women’s Council of REALTORS®/ Have A Heart sponsored our 10th annual 5k Fun Run, Catch a Wave with Dave.  Our recipient, Dave Jessup, a fellow real estate agent, was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma in August of 2021. It has been an absolute whirlwind for him and his wife Misty, as they are learning to navigate a new world that is unknown. This cancer is rare and aggressive. Dave started chemo in September, along with radiation and then oral chemo. He had surgery on March 8th to remove the cancer, but unfortunately, they were not able to remove all of it. They did remove the entire right lobe of his liver and his body is now trying to regenerate that portion. This process is slow, painful, and exerts as much energy as running a full marathon every day. Since they were unsuccessful in removing all of the cancer, more chemo and radiation treatments are in Dave’s future.

Dave and his wife Misty have the fight of a lifetime going on right now and we felt honored to have been able to help in a small way.  We had family, agents, mortgage lenders and many more from our industry who came and donated in the raffle and ran the race. This event is always close to my heart. In 2014, my husband was sick with cancer and he was the recipient from the same fundraiser. I immediately got involved and have been chairing or co-chairing the committee ever since. We are able to help others in our industry and it’s amazing to see us all come together to help one another. We are grateful for everyone who participated and with the help of EXIT Realty Corp. International’s, Spirit of EXIT program, we were able to reach our goal!

A portion of every transaction fee received by EXIT Realty Corp. International is applied to its charitable fund. Through the Spirit of EXIT Dollar-for-Dollar Matching Program, EXIT offices and associates can raise money for local, approved, registered charities and apply to EXIT’s head office to have those funds matched from the company’s pool of funds. Stephanie and the team at EXIT Realty Advantage hoped to raise $5,000, which EXIT’s head office was proud to match, but instead raised $5,015 for a total donation of $10,015 to Have a Heart, the non-profit supporting Dave. The charity reported that in total, $40,638.67 was raised for Dave’s fight against cancer.
