EXIT Realty Broker/Owners Share Their Recommended Reads: Self-Development

Self-development books have undergone a paradigm shift in recent years. People everywhere are recognizing the significant role our habits, perceptions, and attitudes play in our personal and professional prosperity. By shifting our attention inwards, we can create the internal conditions that fuel success.

We recently asked EXIT Realty Broker/Owners and select company leaders to suggest their top picks for business books and here, we focus on their recommendations on the topic of self-development.

  1. Find Your Why by Simon Sinek (CEO, Tami Bonnell’s Pick): We all want fulfillment in our lives, and yet something so essential can sometimes seem unattainable. Following his New York Times® Best Seller on influential leadership, “Start with Why”, Sinek created this actionable guide to help you uncover your personal purpose in life. This book will challenge you through a series of workshops to better understand where your passions lie. By understanding your “why” – the forces that motivate and inspire you – you can make guided decisions that steer you towards fulfillment.
  2. Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill (Director of Leadership, Bob McKinnon’s Pick): First published during the Great Depression in 1937, this classic is aimed at understanding the psychology of success. Through thirteen principles, Hill helps you develop a success-driven, conscious mindset geared towards achievement. The book has sold over 100 million copies worldwide and is featured under John C. Maxwell’s, “A Lifetime Must-Read Books” list.
  3. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey: Covey believes that when it comes to success, there is no substitute for a well-defined character ethic. These are the intrinsic values at our core relating to integrity, fidelity, courage, and independence. Through these 7 habits, Covey aims to realign your perceptions of the world and help you establish a principled, success-oriented character ethic.
  4. The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy: The premise behind The Compound Effect is that the small, consistent decisions we make over a long period of time produce the greatest results towards our goals. Hardy believes we often make the mistake of doing too much, too fast, which is unsustainable. Instead, by making small behavioral changes, you can achieve your goals more efficiently without risk of burning out.
  5. The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth by John C. Maxwell: Maxwell is a multiple New York Times® Best Selling author and internationally-recognized expert on leadership. Success is the result of initiative and intention, and through these fifteen laws you can become more deliberate with your personal growth. By understanding pitfalls that can disrupt growth, and creating a well-developed system, you can achieve consistent results in your emotional development.

This is the second installment of EXIT’s “Recommended Reads”, which brings you book recommendations from EXIT’s leaders to help you achieve success. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the previous installment on entrepreneurship and keep an eye out for the next release.
