A significant number of children living in poverty in the US don’t have books in the home. Study after study demonstrates that children who are surrounded by books grow up to be more literate, educated, productive, and healthier adults. The United Way of Dubuque hosts 18 Little Free Libraries in the tri-state area. A team of volunteers called “Women United” collect, sort, and distribute the books. Right now, they are desperately in need of books for these libraries.
It is with excitement that I get to share with you, the success our agents at EXIT Realty Unlimited had for our Tips for Tip-Off Fundraiser for the United Way literacy program. We had six associates volunteer bartending at Dolphin’s Bar in downtown Dubuque and all tips were put towards the fundraiser. Not only were we able to collect donations, but we also connected and networked with an amazing group of people who joined our event. We suggested that attendees bring one of their favorite childhood books to donate and collected roughly 15 books as well.
A portion of every transaction fee received by EXIT Realty Corp. International is applied to its charitable fund. Through the Spirit of EXIT Charitable Program, EXIT offices and associates can raise money for local, approved, registered charities and apply to EXIT’s head office to have those funds matched from the company’s pool of funds. Sherri and her team raised $1,250, which EXIT’s head office was proud to match, for a total donation of $2,500 to United Way of Dubuque.
“Your generosity is making a difference in the Tri-State Area. We appreciate that you recognized the need in our community for children to have better access to literacy programs. Your contribution will allow us to continue to support literacy programs in our area,” said Katie Wiedermann, Vice President of Development, United Way of Dubuque.
