From the Armed Forces to Real Estate Champion: How Service Brings Purpose

Sandra Hussey, Sales Representative with EXIT Realty Group, Brokerage in Trenton, ON has received multiple EXIT Realty honours over the years including her second Tri-Real-A-Thon Award at EXIT Realty Corp. International’s last annual convention. She achieved the ranking of Top Gross Closed Income in North America for the third consecutive year, the Million Dollar Circle for earning over $1M in gross commission, and several Platinum Awards for closing more than 100 real estate transaction sides in a production year. Her real estate sales team, Team Fussy Hussey, achieved the ranking of #4 Team in North America.

A Canadian Armed Forces veteran who began her real estate career in 2013, Sandra has achieved so much over the years that her excellence in sales, listings, and assisting in the growth of the company make her a true star and inspiration. Who wouldn’t want to get to know her a little better?

Q: How did you decide on real estate following your time as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces?

A: After my time in the Canadian Armed Forces, I was open to exploring new opportunities. Following an injury, I found myself applying for an administrative position at EXIT Realty Group, where I had the fortune of meeting Sharon Shortt. During our conversation, Sharon saw something in me and asked why I was interested in the role. It was then that she pointed out my potential as a real estate agent.

Reflecting on my past experiences, I realized that I’ve always enjoyed assisting people, and sales and customer service have been integral parts of my life. It became clear that transitioning into real estate was a natural progression for me.

I embraced the opportunity and haven’t looked back since Sharon gave me that posthumous advice. Becoming a successful real estate agent has been a fulfilling journey, and I’m grateful for the chance to continue helping others in this new capacity.

Q: Are there any specific routines you put into practice that you think others might benefit from?

A: I prioritize achieving a solid work-life balance and embracing life fully. Waking up early grants me valuable “me” time before diving into the day’s tasks, fostering a positive, level-headed, and open-minded mindset. In the mornings, I dedicate time to connecting with clients, prospecting, and completing necessary paperwork for afternoon appointments. Additionally, I schedule myself for listing presentations at 1pm, 3pm, and 5pm daily, utilizing any unfilled slots for prospecting activities.

Q: Do you feel comfortable in your role, especially with your level of success, or do you still feel like you are learning new things all the time?

A: In real estate, growth and evolution are constants. I approach each day with a growth mindset and a commitment to hard work. These principles have been instrumental in achieving the level of success I’ve aimed for, yet I recognize there’s always room for learning and improvement.

Q: You’re a rock star at the passive income game, consistently earning thousands per month since 2020. That number has almost tripled so far this year at roughly $8,000 per month, and you say you’re just getting started with plans to invite agents across Ontario to the many new EXIT offices opening. Do you use your residual income more for vacations and improving your quality of life or for keeping your career in motion through marketing, education, etc?

A: Residual income forms the cornerstone of my business strategy. I actively embrace the multiple streams of income provided by EXIT. Setting annual goals to increase this income has afforded me greater stability, extending well into retirement. Moreover, I’ve reinvested a portion into building a strong real estate team and bolstering my brand. Additionally, it’s contributing to my upcoming trip to Spain to experience the Camino Trail.

Q: Does this career path make you feel like you’re living a purpose-driven life?

A: Real estate imbues my life with purpose. It enables me to assist individuals during pivotal moments, whether joyous, challenging, or transformative. The ability to help without expecting anything in return is immensely gratifying and fills me with a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

Q: Each and every year you seem to steadily grow in production, do you feel like this has been a natural progression?

A: It’s been a natural progression, but not without intentional effort. I firmly believe in taking control of my future. With the invaluable support of EXIT Mind-Set Trainers, Erica Nasby and Angel Tucker, as well as Founder & Chairman, Steve Morris and the entire EXIT team, I’ve been able to set clear goals for myself and my team. I have a strong belief in the power of manifestation and being open to receiving achievements I’ve worked for.

Q: Do you feel like education is still important at your level of production?

A: With each year of growth in production, I’ve also been learning at a consistent pace. Every day presents new challenges and opportunities to expand my knowledge and skills. Whether it’s staying updated on market trends, refining negotiation techniques, or improving customer service, I’m committed to continuous learning.

Q: Where do you see yourself future tense, whether it be five or even 15 years from now?

A: Looking ahead, I envision myself creating workshops and mentorship programs. These will be aimed at supporting new, hardworking agents and helping them improve their skills to achieve higher success levels. Additionally, I see Team Fussy Hussey growing and expanding, reaching new heights of success and impact in the real estate industry. The journey has been rewarding, and I’m excited about the future possibilities and opportunities for growth and contribution.
