Hit the reset button

By Tami Bonnell, CEO, EXIT Realty Corp. International

Sometimes it can feel like we’re playing out the movie, Groundhog Day, where cynical weatherman, Phil Connors, lives the same day over and over again.  Like Phil, it’s time for us to hit the reset button.

The best way to start is by asking yourself effective questions, and one of my favorites comes from Abraham Hicks:

The best question for you to put to the Universe with an expectation of an answer is, “Where is my greatest joy?”  That is the most powerful question.  What makes me happy? What can I do today that will bring me the greatest amount of joy?  And you will find floodgates opening and all kinds of new experiences pouring in.

Ask yourself, “Where is my greatest joy in my relationships, in my health, with my family?”  If spending time in the sunshine brings you joy, why not incorporate that into your exercise routine to enhance your mental and physical health?  Something as simple as taking a walk – putting one foot in front of the other – can inspire great ideas and solutions.

Recently I had a brutal day.  When this happens to you – and it happens to all of us from time to time – you have a choice. You could bring anger and resentment into the next day or you could wake up, list the things you’re grateful for and start a new practice like Hal Elrod’s Miracle Morning™ SAVERS routine (Silence, Affirmations, Visualization, Exercise, Reading and Scribing/Journaling).  I love my SAVERS practice because it puts me in control of my day.  When I finish my routine and I have a positive, focused outlook.  The time spent on silence, affirmations and visualization helps me to construct my day instead of blindly stumbling into it like so many people who live by default.

So, tomorrow morning when your alarm clock sounds, you have a choice.  You can hit the snooze button, or you can hit the reset button, jump out of bed and choose a new routine. You can choose not to participate in every fight you’re invited to.  You can choose to be resilient.  You can choose to get better quality sleep by going to bed earlier and waking up at the same time every day, even on your days off.  You can surround yourself with people who lift you up and make you want to be a better person.

If you’re wound too tightly right now, hit the reset button.  Stop, breathe and try something new.
