Inspiring Young Women to Consider a Career in STEM

“We are pleased to be the recipients of funds raised by Karen Totty for the 2020 MSKSI Girls Rock S.T.E.A.M Giving Tuesday Campaign,” said Kristen Newsome, Founder and Executive Director of My Sister’s Keeper Success Institute, Inc. “Karen is a Board Member and advocate of MSKSI and a REALTOR® with EXIT Alliance Realty in Temecula, California.  Our mission is to create awareness and interest in the rapid growth industries in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (S.T.E.A.M.) for young women in underrepresented groups, ages 10-17.”

Karen solicited donations through social and traditional media promotion.  “This charity speaks to my heart,” she said.  “As an IT/Telecommunications project manager for over 30 years before becoming a full time REALTOR, I was constantly reminded of the startling lack of diversity (both in gender and ethnicity) in the entire engineering/IT field.  It became a burning desire for me to become a change maker and to figure out what I could do to help encourage young girls to actively pursue a career in STEM fields.  This charity does exactly that; it focuses on inspiring young women through career exploration, personal development and mentoring to make a purposeful choice towards a future career in the STEM field.  My Sister’s Keeper Success Institute also folds in an Art component to enhance the learning experience.”

A portion of every transaction fee received by EXIT Realty Corp. International is applied to its charitable fund. Through the Spirit of EXIT Dollar-for-Dollar Matching Program, EXIT offices and associates can raise money for local, approved, registered charities and apply to EXIT’s head office to have those funds matched from the company’s pledged pool of funds.   Karen hoped to raise $2,900 which EXIT Realty Corp. International was proud to match but she exceeded her goal, coming in at $3,020 for a total donation to My Sister’s Keeper Success Institute, Inc. of $5,920.

“Thank you for your generosity!” said Ms Newsome.  “With your help we are one step closer to reaching our goal and inspiring young women to succeed!”
