Around the world, mental illness and addiction are on the rise. Feeling the impacts in New Brunswick, Pamela Doak, Sales Representative with EXIT Realty Advantage in Fredericton, wanted to make an impact of her own. She’s volunteered with the Chalmers Foundation, serving on a committee for mental health. “We are working to bring awareness and support systems through local government and philanthropists to support faster access to care, mental health training for our youth, working with the schools and expanding to rural and indigenous areas,” said Pam.
After the loss of a student, Lexi Daken, to suicide at her son Colter’s school, Pam and Colter took it a step further and decided to raise money to further their efforts for easier access to services and support of mental health.
“I have been an advocate for many years speaking about mental health. I prepared feel good care packages with pampering items to calm the spirit and books to calm the mind. These were sold and we collected donations in support of the cause through our awareness campaign,” said Pam.
A portion of every transaction fee received by EXIT Realty Corp. International is applied to its charitable fund. Through the Spirit of EXIT Dollar-for-Dollar Matching Program, EXIT offices and associates can raise money for local, approved, registered charities and apply to EXIT’s head office to have those funds matched from the company’s pool of funds. Pam and her team of professionals hoped to raise $2,500 which EXIT’s head office was proud to match, however they far exceeded their goal and raised $7,500 for a total donation of $10,000 to the Chalmers Foundation in honor of Lexi Daken.
“Pam, thank you and Colter for all of this work. Please know these funds will make a difference for our youth. We appreciate your ongoing support,” Gilles Allain, Executive Director of Chalmers Foundation Inc.
