The Spirit of EXIT and Pink Cans 4 Cancer Raise Funds for Breast Cancer Awareness

Pink Cans 4 Cancer is a non-profit organization that places pink bins in businesses, gyms, schools, concert venues, restaurants, and homes to collect recyclable cans and bottles, which are taken to recycling facilities. The money raised benefits breast cancer awareness all year round.

In September, the organization held its 7th annual fundraiser, which is near to the hearts of EXIT Realty Associates Robert Schwendel, Associate Broker, and Tony Dean, Sales Representative, with EXIT Realty Premier in Massapequa Park, New York. Dean was inspired to found Pink Cans 4 Cancer after his friend, Kristen Martinez, succumbed to breast cancer. “We had over 175 people attend the fundraiser, said Schwendel. “This was also our first year of taking sponsorships and we had over 65 raffles, which included three televisions.”

A portion of every transaction fee collected by EXIT Realty Corp. International is applied to its charitable fund. Through the Spirit of EXIT Dollar-for-Dollar Matching Program, EXIT offices and associates can raise money for local, approved, registered charities and apply to EXIT’s head office to have those funds matched from the company’s pledged pool of funds. Dean and Schwendel anticipated raising $20,000, which EXIT’s head office agreed to match, but they exceeded that amount, raising $21,618.35 resulting in a donation to Pink Cans 4 Cancer of $41,618.35.

“We have over 40 Pink Cans in schools, businesses, and homes all with the support of amazing friends and family,” said Schwendel. “From the money we raised at this year’s fundraiser we will be able to purchase a second vehicle, and twenty more Pink Cans can go throughout Long Island and Queens. All of this will allow Pink Cans 4 Cancer to double the amount of money we will be able to raise next year. With EXIT Realty Corp. International’s support, we will be able to help so many young women through a very tough time in their life.”
