According to a recent article by Roni Robbins, a 30-year journalist with business, environmental, and real estate specialties, although women are dominating the residential real estate industry, they are in the minority in leadership positions. Robbins says, Today, the majority of Realtors—62 percent—are women, according to the NAR 2016 Member Profile. Within NAR, women make up:
- 56 percent of licensed brokers
- 66 percent of sales agent licensees
- 63 percent of full-time sales agents
- 69 percent of part-time sales agents
EXIT Realty’s CEO, Tami Bonnell is one of the few women who head a top-tier real estate franchisor and is ranked among the top 200 most powerful people in residential real estate by industry trend-watcher, Stefan Swanepoel. In addition, a majority of the company’s executive positions are held by women. In a conversation with Robbins, Bonnell commented that her “secret for success had a lot to do with timing.” Her husband was able to stay at home with the couple’s three children when they were young. She waited until they were grown to take high-level positions that involved traveling.
