“My son was diagnosed <with autism> at two and a half years of age and there are over 4,000 families in Long Island alone who have children on the spectrum,” explains Karina Mermis, Sales Representative with EXIT Home Key Realty in Patchogue, NY of why she chose to support the Nassau-Suffolk Autism Society of America (NSASA).
NSASA is an organization of parents who have children and adults with autism spectrum disorders. They work hard to bring families into the community and out of isolation and to assist them with social, recreational, and educational opportunities.
Karina led a group of volunteers who used videos on social media to bring awareness and promote her online Fundraiser. This was Karina’s second fundraiser with Spirit of EXIT for this organization.
A portion of every transaction fee received by EXIT Realty Corp. International is applied to its charitable fund. Through the Spirit of EXIT Charitable Program, EXIT offices and associates can raise money for local, approved, registered charities and apply to EXIT’s head office to have those funds matched from the company’s pool of funds. Karina and the team hoped to raise $5,000, which EXIT’s head office was proud to match, however they exceeded their goal and raised $5,500 for a total donation of $10,500 to NSASA.
