Making Airwaves: From Disc Jockey to Real Estate Pro and Back

How, in a world full of marketing and promotional messaging, do you get heard amidst all the noise? That’s exactly what we asked two of EXIT Realty’s voices in real estate who are successful broadcasters on the airwaves and capturing attention in this two-part series.

With over 45 years of broadcasting experience, Sales Representative, Chip Walters of EXIT Realty Bob Lamb & Associates maintains a thriving broadcast presence, attracting well-known guests, and educating hundreds of thousands of viewers and listeners across the U.S. each week.

He started at his hometown radio station in Columbia, TN, as a real deal teenage disk jockey and sports announcer, and while the industry has seen it’s fair share of change, he believes it’s still flourishing saying,

“While playing records went away, the sports broadcasting has been a very big part of my life. The 2025 football season will mark my 40th year broadcasting college football and baseball. As a media outlet, I think [radio] is as strong or stronger than ever. The way people consume it is much different today than when I first flipped a microphone switch in 1978.”

Since first being presented with the opportunity to host a weekly radio show in 2022, Chip has used his interests, curiosities and contacts to build out The Roundtable, which airs on WGNS radio in Murfreesboro, TN every Wednesday morning. It’s then syndicated as a podcast on their website and popular platforms like Spotify, Apple, YouTube, iHeartRadio, and Amazon Music.

He says it keeps him talking and connecting with community leaders, newsmakers, politicians, entertainers, and other media members and he retains a wish list of guests he and his audience would like to interview. In addition, he also works with outside non-profits for spots on the show.

According to Chip, his radio show has turned out to be one of the best vehicles to shine a light on his real estate business, and thanks to tech like Zoom and Streamyard, he’s been able to bring guests on the air from literally anywhere in the world just like they’re in-studio with him. He was even able to hold interviews with fellow broadcast friends during the 2024 Olympic games in Paris from the NBC compound.

Growing up listening to sports radio as a child of the 70’s, Chip saw the radio like a friend, and listening to those broadcasters gave him the confidence that he could do it too saying, “With games, you always have a listener base interested in the team’s success. Doing my weekly talk show, I felt that I was interested in many of the same things that other folks were interested in. Fortunately, that’s proven to be true.  It’s satisfying to walk into a restaurant and have someone tell me they heard my show, and then immediately ask, ‘how’s the real estate market?’”

For Chip, radio is about the connections he makes, and the meaningful conversations he has that help educate the public, and the same goes for our next EXIT podcaster we’ll be featuring in part two of this series, so stay tuned.
