Friendly REALTOR Rivalry Benefits Rare Hunter Syndrome Awareness

Hunter Syndrome / Mucopolysaccharidosis II (MPS) affects approximately 500 boys in the U.S.  and Project Alive is a charity whose aim is to cure this rare and fatal disease through research and advocacy.

One of the boys living with Hunter Syndrome is Case Hogan, an 11-year-old Spring Hill, Tennessee resident whose mom, Melissa is friend to Laura Grzegorczyk, Associate Broker with EXIT Realty King and Associates.  Laura helped Case’s family sell their home so they could build a handicapped-accessible home for his future needs. More of Case’s story can be seen on an episode of Project Alive’s mini-documentary series that followed several Hunter Syndrome families, including the Hogans, at ProjectAlive.org/stories.

On May 15th, International MPS Awareness Day, Project Alive challenged individuals to give just $15 in an effort to complete its funding for the first gene therapy clinical trial. A competing local real estate company issued a friendly challenge to the team at EXIT Realty King and Associates to raise money. The EXIT team reached out the region of EXIT Southeast who helped to publicize the initiative and in a matter of days, they reached their goal of $2,500.

A portion of every transaction fee collected by EXIT Realty Corp. International is applied to its charitable fund.  Through the Spirit of EXIT Dollar-for-Dollar Matching Program, EXIT offices and associates can raise money for local, approved, registered charities and apply to EXIT’s head office to have those funds matched from the company’s pledged pool of funds.  EXIT’s head office matched the $2,500 raised by the team at EXIT Realty King and Associates and the Region for a total donation to Project Alive of $5,000.
