The Spirit of EXIT: Supporting the Mental Health of Military Personnel and First Responders

At EXIT Realty, giving back isn’t just something we do—it’s who we are. Through the Spirit of EXIT program, our associates raise funds for causes close to their hearts, and EXIT Realty Corp. International amplifies their efforts by matching funds for approved, registered charities.

One recent initiative showcased the incredible power of community and generosity. Franchisee Kimberly Plourde and Sales Representative Heather Redwood of EXIT Realty Central in Norfolk, Virginia dedicated six months to organizing a series of engaging fundraising events including a bowling tournament, silent auction, and “Paint Your Own Sign” night. Their hard work resulted in an impressive $3,981.22 raised for Trails of Purpose, a nonprofit dedicated to providing free equine-assisted therapies and mental health counseling for military personnel and first responders. Through the Spirit of EXIT program, this amount was further strengthened by an additional $3,500 match from EXIT Realty, bringing the total donation to a remarkable $7,481.22.

First responders and military personnel often experience high levels of stress, trauma, and burnout. The impact of their service can lead to anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other mental health challenges. Trails of Purpose offers a unique, non-traditional form of healing—using the powerful bond between humans and horses to help participants rebuild trust, process trauma, and develop coping skills in a safe, supportive environment.

Thanks to the efforts of Kimberly Plourde, Heather Redwood, and the support of the Spirit of EXIT program, more military members and first responders will have access to these life-changing services. Their initiative is more than just a donation—it’s an investment in the well-being of those who serve and protect our communities.

At EXIT Realty, we believe that giving is not just about making a donation—it’s about making a difference. We are proud to support causes that strengthen our communities, uplift those in need, and bring hope to those who have sacrificed so much.

A portion of every transaction fee received by EXIT Realty Corp. International is applied to its charitable fund. Through the Spirit of EXIT Charitable Program, EXIT offices and associates can raise money for local, approved, registered charities and apply to EXIT’s head office to have those funds matched from the company’s pool of funds.
